Pride of Place

Pride of Place

Pride of Place is an all-island competition that acknowledges the work that communities are doing across the island of Ireland. The competition focus is about people coming together to shape, change and improve daily lives in their communities.

The competition is a result of an initiative instigated in 2003 by Chairperson, Tom Dowling under the auspices of Co-operation Ireland’s Local Authority All Island Steering Forum. This motivational community initiative continues to grow from strength to strength and is now the island of Ireland’s most prestigious community event. In 2012, IPB Insurance became its headline sponsor and it is now designated as the IPB Pride of Place Awards in association with Co-operation Ireland.

Entry for the competition is by way of your council’s (city, county or district) nomination. From these entries (covering general population, housing estate and themed categories etc) judging schedules are drawn up in co-operation with the councils.

The judging season is from June through August. Teams of experienced judges visit the communities and their showcases of community pride throughout the island and the judges meet in September to decide the winners.

This year -2023 – the awards will take place on Friday, November 10 at the Armagh City Hotel.
