In June 2012, Co-operation Ireland was invited to share its experiences of working with the Northern Ireland Peace Process at a ceremony in Manama, Bahrain, which marked the launch of the new formed Bahrain Foundation for Reconciliation and Civil Discourse.

The Foundation was formed to facilitate the exchange of ideas and values across all segments of Bahrain’s communities to promote reconciliation and social unity.

Peter Sheridan, Co-operation Ireland’s CEO, spoke on the importance of reconciliation and on the work towards a shared society built on understanding and tolerance and he highlighted the many challenges and successes in the work towards reconciliation.

Supported by the Crown Prince, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, The newly formed foundation aims to highlight the many areas in which all Bahrain society agrees, while initiating and mediating dialogue to stimulate understanding and tolerance in areas of disagreement.

Through a series of interviews and discussions, Peter shared many of the lessons learnt in Northern Ireland’s transition from conflict to a more peaceful society.
