Co-operation Ireland is currently running a programme to provide a platform for young people to have their voices heard and concerns taken into account as the UK negotiates its departure from the European Union.

The project, Together Apart: Young People’s Views of the Future Post-Brexit, brings together five groups from across Northern Ireland and one group from the Republic to share their views about what Brexit will mean for their lives and to identify ideas and solutions to address these priorities. Young people from the following groups and areas are taking part:

  • Amazing the Space Northwest Steering Group (Derry/Londonderry)
  • R City (North Belfast)
  • Bishopstown Youth Project (Cork City)
  • Colin Glen Youth Group (West Belfast)
  • Resurgam Trust Youth Group (Lisburn)
  • Strabane Youth Council

Over 60 young people from the six groups have taken part in introductory workshops which provided participants with background information on the Brexit process and supported them to explore the implications of the UK leaving the EU for themselves and their communities.

A plenary event for all the groups involved is being held in January in Armagh, bringing participants together to share their views and work together on their ideas for the future post-Brexit. The young people will then have an opportunity to discuss their concerns and ideas with politicians and policymakers at a final event at Stormont on 15 February 2018.

Funding for the project has been provided by Community Foundation Northern Ireland, DFA, Coca Cola’s Thank You Fund, and a personal donation from John Griffin.
