Pride of Place is an all-island competition that acknowledges the work that communities are doing across the island of Ireland. The competition focus is about people coming together to shape, change and improve daily lives in their communities.
The competition is a result of an initiative instigated in 2003 by Chairman, Tom Dowling under the auspices of Co-operation Ireland’s Local Authority All Island Steering Forum. This community motivational initiative continues to grow from strength to strength and is now the island of Ireland’s most prestigious community event. In 2012, IPB Insurance became headline sponsor. It has now been designated the IPB Pride of Place Awards in association with Co-operation Ireland.
The 2015 competition is now underway with communities from every city and county in the island of Ireland getting ready to participate. Entry is by way of your council’s (city, county or district) nomination. From entries (covering general population, housing estate and themed categories etc) judging schedules are drawn up in co-operation with the councils. The judging season is from June through August. Teams of experienced judges visit the communities and their showcases of community pride throughout the island and the judges meet in September to decide the winners.
The winners will be announced at the Gala Awards Ceremony, which this year will take place on 14 November 2015 in Treacys West County Hotel, Ennis, Co Clare.
