News Update Entwined Histories – Part 1, The Ulster Covenant
The first in Co-operation Ireland’s Entwined Histories projects (The Ulster Covenant) is well underway with 6 participating schools and youth groups. They are Corpus Christi Youth Club, Blackmountain Action Group, Lagan College, Assumption Grammar School, Wallace High School and Ashfield Girls High School.
The young people have been engaged in three education workshops exploring themes such as Identity; the social and political context of 1912 and the preceding and subsequent events surrounding the signing of the Covenant. The venues for the workshops were carefully chosen to reflect the work undertaken and we were pleased to receive the support of Stormont and the Ulster Hall in the use of their facilities.
The fourth in the series of workshops was a film masterclass facilitated by Cinemagic and hosted by the Spectrum Centre. Through the acquisition of film making skills, the young people will express their feelings and perspectives of this important historical event through a short film.
The groups are well underway with script writing and pre production, with one group having already completed their 3 day film shoot.
We very much look forward to sharing the end results at a finale event to be held at City Hall on 27th September. All films will subsequently be available to view on Co-operation Ireland and Cinemagic websites.
