Ulster Covenant youth project announced

Co-operation Ireland is pleased to announce the launch of a new youth education and film project this month. This will be an exciting, creative project that will positively commemorate the first of this decade’s notable historic commemorations, the signing of the Ulster Covenant.

Involving six groups from Belfast city and the Greater Belfast area and from both major religious communities, the project aims to inform and educate young people on the relevance and impact the signing of the Covenant has had on them and society today. As the project progresses, more members of the community will become involved in the education and film making processes.

The objective of the project is to give the participants the opportunity to study and reflect upon the impact of this event from all religious and political perspectives and learn how all of our histories are intertwined.

Co-operation Ireland will work in conjunction with Cinemagic to facilitate the young people to explore the history of the event, get to know each other and learn skills involved in film making. The outcome will be 6 short films, conceived, written, directed, and starring the groups themselves.

These films will be screened at a final showcase event at City Hall on the 28th September - the anniversary of the signing of the Ulster Covenant.
