Co-operation Ireland CEO Peter Sheridan has been appointed Honorary Professor at Queen's University Belfast's George J Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice.

Professor Sheridan will contribute to the work of the Institute which was set up to research peace building strategies and offers a number of courses related to conflict.

"I am delighted to have been appointed to this role and hope that the experience Co-operation Ireland has built up over 40 years will go towards helping to foster relations around the world and help transition communities out of conflict."

The George J Mitchell Institute was officially opened in June 2016 by Senator George Mitchell who chaired the all-party talks that led to the signing of the Agreement in 1998. He served as Queen's University Chancellor from 1999 to 2009.
