Co-operation Ireland working with Department of Communities on women's programme

The Fresh Start Agreement, and the subsequent Executive Action Plan to address Paramilitary Activity, Criminality and Organised Crime, is a cross-departmental initiative to address many of the issues which hinder peacebuilding and the development of communities across Northern Ireland.

Since the announcement of the Action Plan, Co-operation Ireland has worked to ensure that

a. the interests of the groups involved in our programmes, and

b. the knowledge and experience gained over years of peace building activity, are both represented and reflected in the design of new initiatives being developed under this programme

As part of this process, we are currently engaged with the Department for Communities, as members of a co-design group representing both statutory and community stakeholders, working to develop a programme to enable women’s organisations to carry out transformative community development work in our communities and ensure that women are equipped to take on more leadership roles in public decision-making.

Further information on this important initiative is available on the Department for Communities website, and can be accessed here.

This site will continue to provide updated information on this initiative as it becomes available.
