Overseas Challenges

Be A Sport for Co-operation Ireland and take on an overseas challenge to help us raise funds for the important peace-building work taking place throughout the island of Ireland.

14-23 November 2014 - The Cuban Revolution Cycle Challenge
350km over 5 days cycling from the beautiful Cuban capital of Havana to the sparkling water of the Caribbean Sea this bike ride is a must for the cycling enthusiast. You will cycle through villages, sugar plantations and tree-lined avenues passing the charming city of Cienfuegos nicknamed ‘Pearl of the South’, situated in a bay overlooking the Caribbean Sea, and continue along coastline to the town of Trinidad with its cobblestone streets, beautifully restored houses and colonial courtyards.

25 Sept-2 Oct 2015 The Grand Canyon Trek
They say you haven't lived until you have taken the journey through the Grand Canyon. Join the Co-operation Ireland trekking group taking on this once in a life-time challenge to this amazing landscape.

13 September 2015 - The BUPA Great North Run
Take part in one of the world's greatest running festivals and the biggest half marathon. Over 50,000 runners from all over the world will gather in Newcastle city centre to participate in the 33rd running of this event.

1 November 2015 - The TCS New York City Marathon
5-day trip to the ‘Big Apple’ to take part in one of the world’s greatest sporting events. 40,000 participants, 6,000 volunteers and over 2 million spectators makes this one of the greatest sporting shows in the world.

The BUPA Great North Run and the TCS New York City Marathon are booked through Sports Travel International who organise entries, travel and accommodation. In addition to these two events, they have a number of other marathons and half marathons on offer during 2015 including:

Tokyo Marathon - 22 February
Sports Travel have 30 guaranteed entries which will be sold on a first-come basis. This is a hugely over-subscribed event worldwide. The inaugural tour this year was very successful entries will be in high demand.

Boston Marathon - 20 April
A limited number of guaranteed invitational entries (25 approx) with a time limit of 6 hours are available.

London Marathon - 26 April
Entries generally are sold out by Christmas for this popular marathon.

NYC Half Marathon - 15 March
A classic event in its own right with over 15,000 runners, it starts in Central Park, runs the full length of traffic-free Manhattan, including through Times Square (wow!), to finish in Battery Park. And it is on St Patrick's Day Parade weekend.

Lisbon Half Marathon - 22 March
A classic event, probably Europe's best half marathon, in a stunningly beautiful and historic city.

Vienna Marathon - 12 April
New tour to a fine marathon in a beautiful city.
