2012 School Choir Competition
The 2012 final of the All Island School Choir of the Year competition is to be held in Belfast’s New Titanic Centre in November. The event, featuring the winning schools from 4 regional finals will be transmitted live from the Titanic Building’s Banqueting Centre on RTE I television on Sunday Nov 11th and presented by Anne Cassin. The competition, open to second-level schools from all parts of the island, is organised by Co-operation Ireland, in association with RTE.
Peter Sheridan, chief executive of Co-operation Ireland, said “the magnificent Titanic building will be a spectacular setting for the competition final. The choirs will sing from the staircase in the banqueting centre.”
This is the fourth year of the competition – the winners to date were Wesley College, Dublin (2011) Presentation College, Ballyphehane. Cork (2010) and Methodist College, Belfast (2009).
The four regional heats will take place in Cork on Oct 8th, Castlebar Oct 10th, Ballymena Oct 15th and Drogheda Oct 17th. The 5 programme RTE series will begin on RTE I on Sun 14th Oct, culminating with the live final event from Belfast on Nov 11th.
